Informed Consent

Purpose:

We are conducting a research study to examine how people with disabilities perceive and relate to others who ask for information and assistance. You must be 18 years of age or older and a resident of the United States to participate in this study.

Procedures:

If you choose to participate, you will be asked to read a brief scenario describing an interaction between two pedestrians. You will then answer some questions about the people in the scenario and a number of related issues. We anticipate that your involvement will require about 10 minutes. You will be entered into a prize drawing for a $25 Amazon.com gift certificate in return for participating in this study. Winners of the drawing will be notified by email. Your contact information will never be connected to the responses you provide on this survey. Please see final page of the survey for specific instructions about how to enter the prize drawing.

Risks and Benefits:

Participants in this study experience minimal risk of harm - no more than one would experience during everyday tasks and interactions.  Although this study will not benefit you personally, we hope that the results will add to our knowledge about the ways people form impressions of one another. By participating in this study, you will learn about how studies are designed and conducted and will have an opportunity to ask questions about the research at the end of the study.

Confidentiality:

All of your responses will be held anonymous. Only the researchers involved in this study and those responsible for research oversight will have access to the responses you provide.

Voluntary Participation:

Participation in this study is completely voluntary. You are free to decline to participate, to end participation at any time for any reason, or to refuse to answer any individual question without penalty or loss of compensation.
